PINE HILL BAPTIST CHURCH

Our History

A legacy of faith, fellowship, and steadfastness since 1912.

A Century of Steadfastness

1912

The Pine Hill Baptist Church was organized on October 9, 1912, as a Mission of the Hephzibah Baptist Church. Land was donated for the sanctuary and the original sanctuary was completed in 1914. This was a wooden building with the pews being made of boards. Worship services were held every third Sunday with conferences held on the Saturday before. There were twenty-three charter members. Later that same year, one of the members was the first to be buried in the cemetery.

1953

A new sanctuary was built and dedicated in 1953.

1962

Since November 1962, many accomplishments in education, music, and new buildings have been made to include the construction of a pastorium, stained glass windows, a new educational building and dining hall, steeple installed, choir space enlarged, and a library was added in the educational building.

1980 & 1982

In 1980, the "Half Century Club" was organized for anyone fifty years of age and older. As the South Augusta population grew, the membership of Pine Hill grew. The worship area was filled to capacity. In January of 1982, the church membership voted to renovate and enlarge the present sanctuary. The first service of this new addition was held on July 27, 1982. The formal dedication of this building was held on August 1, 1982.

1987 – 1990

Many wonderful events continued to happen as God continued to bless. In November of 1987, the church presented the Rev. J.D. Turner and Imogene Turner with a cruise vacation for having served as pastor and pastor's wife for twenty-five years. On July 7, 1989, he retired as pastor and be voted pastor emeritus of the church. In May of 1990, the Rev. Elmer and Martha Weeks would move onto the field as they would lead the church in the last decade of this century. In all of this, Pine Hill seeks God's Will and His place for those who serve.

Pine Hill Baptist Church has historically been a source of strength and steadfastness within this community. Even with all the changes in our society and these new opportunities for ministry, Pine Hill Baptist is still a source of stability for all. The same gospel that has stood the test of time since Christ died upon the cross of Calvary, is still shared at Pine Hill. ...but it is shared in new and exciting ways with each member of the family and to all ages!
